| My work explores the interrelationship
between space, geometry, movement and illusion.
As a metalsmith I have a passion for jewelry design. My creations project
a certain strength and sophisticated wit. I compose my pieces in such
a manner that the wearer joins in the creative process. That is, my work
is both kinetic and illusory. And, although the metal composition may
appear heavy and cumbersome, each piece is, in fact, light and durable.
The brushed finish of the pieces invites touch. These particular qualities
remind the wearer that with jewelry, as in life, things aren't always
what they seem.
My work is composed of metal hollow forms that I call elements. Each element
is hand fabricated from sterling silver or copper. Most of the silver
and copper is acid etched with original designs, using a silk screening
technique. There are at least twelve steps in the fabrication process
that will produce one element. The elements range in height and width
from .5 inches to as large as 3.5 inches. The depth of the elements varies
from .25 inches to 1.0 inches. Found objects, river rocks, pearls, semi-precious
stones and handmade glass beads are incorporated to add color and contrast.
All pieces are oxidized and brushed. Combining the elements and other
objects produce distinctive and original earrings, broaches, bracelets,
and neckpieces.
